About Med Ed Materials:

The primary goal of Med Ed Materials is to increase health literacy levels for low income and uninsured populations. Med Ed Materials produces and distributes evidence based healthcare materials with a target readership of low income and uninsured populations in order to achieve this goal. We accomplish this by doing the following:

  • Producing high quality evidence based materials written at a 10th grade reading level or below
  • Including one or more credible source per material
  • Creating materials with topics helpful for our target readership of low income and uninsured populations
  • Posting materials to this website and the iOS app so that anyone may download and use them for free

 

Volunteer Internship Overview:

  • Hours and Location: This internship is a 100% virtual opportunity and is self paced. Since our organization has no physical location with regular hours, you will work virtually on your own time to set and accomplish goals that you and your coordinator set together. The duration of the internship is personalized to your goals.
  • Personalization: Med Ed Materials would like to personalize this internship to include and focus on areas that you are interested in. For example, if you work well with social media, your goals can focus and include social media opportunities. If your strengths include research and design, your goals can include making materials. If you can write code, you can work on our App Development Team. If you have a completely new idea, you can work on implementing it.
  • Responsibilities: As an intern at Med Ed Materials, you will have the opportunity to work on real-world projects and contribute to the development of our educational materials. You will work closely with our team and gain hands-on experience in various aspects of medical education, including instructional design, content development, multimedia production, social media, quality assurance, and more. This internship is an excellent opportunity to enhance your skills, gain valuable experience in the field, and make a meaningful impact on healthcare education. You will:
    • Express your interests and set goals accordingly
    • Weekly virtual online meeting/check-in with your coordinator
    • Monthly virtual attendance at our board meeting (the first Monday of the month)
  • Compensation: Med Ed Materials has a limited budget and unfortunately, we cannot offer any compensation. In fact, all of our general members or board members receive no compensation. Our yearly budget is around $50, and we dedicate it to our website maintenance and yearly legal filings.

 

Qualifications:

  • Currently enrolled in a relevant undergraduate or graduate program
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment.
  • Proficiency in Google Drive, Google Docs, and other relevant software.
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Familiarity with medical terminology and basic understanding of healthcare concepts.
